Glenelg and Australia day

I don't have one bad word to say about Glenelg, a beach suburb in Adelaide. From the city it's easily accessible by a 20 minute tram-ride. You've got all you need there; great cafés, restaurants and shops.  I stayed at "Glenelg beach house", a splendid  hostel with great people, and the first hostel I've been to where there are no bunk beds, making me feel like a person rather than something that needs to be stored away to make room for better things. This is also where I spent Australia Day.

Glenelg on Australia Day: Morph suits are the new black... true story!

I was fortunate enough to meet two glorious girls in my dorm who had equally high expectations for what I had for Australia Day. Two years ago when I first traveled Australia for two months, Australia Day was spent on a Rooftop Cinema in Melbourne watching something as cheesy as "Crocodile Dundee". This year we started by going to the beach in Glenelg, watched the Havaianas' try for a world record(placing as many flip flops/thongs in a row as possible).

Later in the evening we headed for a drink at an Irish bar, and then to the lawn in front of the Entertainment centre where Commonwealth bank paid for entertainment and concerts from Australian artists and performers. The night ended with a bang, a gigantic firework show that lasted for at least twenty minutes. Huge fan of fireworks! Afterwards, we took the tram back to Glenelg, hoping to have a couple of drinks at a bar there. Unfortunately all the bars were closed because they were packed to the rim by really drunk Australians(had a feeling that would happen), and the idiot manager at our hostel closed the hostel-bar early to celebrate with his dang buddies. All in all though, it was a pretty good day! One of those days where my incredibly high expectations were fulfilled. Definitely going back to Adelaide and Glenelg. Not without a Morph suit though. LOL.
